The Haitian cultural life, after being on pause mode for many long months following the earthquake of January 12, 2010, finally seems to have started again on summer 2011.

It is within this context that an event took place in the heart of Delmas 33, Rue Charbonnière, Port-au-Prince, on July 29: The official inauguration of the Municipal Palace of Delmas.

As of 6 p.m. many vehicles poured on the site of the event hundreds of guests who had answered the invitation of Mr. Wilson Jeudy, the dynamic Maire of Delmas, The visit of the Municipal Palace, followed by a reception, allowed to discover a new edifice, sumptuously decorated for the occasion, where Delmas’ City Hall would be located from now on.

However, gray and threatening clouds had everyone doubt about the continuation of the programming. Soon, moderate but regular rain obliged the organizers to push back the beginning of the cultural part while asking the guests to have a little patience.

When the rain seemed to stop, Clarens Renois, the Master of Ceremony, invited the Mayor and his guests to take seat in the court in front of the covered scene which had been decorated for the circumstance. Renette Désir opened this second part of the evening with a Thanksgiving’s Prayer, a masterly A Capella interpretation of the song “Almighty God”. The Haitian National Anthem followed, sung by Evency Dorzelma, proudly harnessed in his police officer’s outfit.
The Master of Ceremony announced the opening of the spectacle; the Dancers of Jean-Rene Delsoin Company invested the stage to present a Jazz choreography on the music “Bella Via”, but the last seconds of the show proceeded under a beating rain which obliged everyone to shelter.
Half an hour later, in spite of the light rain, after having obtained the approval of the assistance for the continuation of the spectacle, Clarens Renois introduced a young talent of Delmas, singer Annie Alerte, finalist of DIGICEL STARS contest in 2009. She was warmly applauded after having sung “Si m te ou”.
